Based on a paper discovered by English Heritage in Brooke House in Hackney, East London – the second in this collection – it features a simple Arts & Crafts inspired floral design. The building once housed a private hospital and this design takes its name from a Dr John Monroe – one of the owners.

This stunning design was a product of Thomas Wardle’s School of Embroidery in Leek – a place where Wardle experimented with printing and was heavily influenced by William Morris.
